2nd YEAR MED STUDENTS!!💡✨
⠀
Very honestly, this year bout took me out🤭Here’s what I learned/what worked for me:
⠀
🖌Reeeeeeeally annotate that STEP 1 First Aid book, so when you start your dedicated study, you have a one stop shop for quick hits and detailed info too!
⠀
📖Read. Especially the Robbins Pathology text. A strong foundation in pathology and pathophysiology is wildly important. So many students feel as though they do not learn best by reading. I can relate, BUT Robbins? Read Robbins…and whatever pathophys texts you are assigned as well!
⠀
❓Questions are bae. To me, they are the best way to demonstrate your strong and weak areas; to determine which subject matters require more of your attention. Do as many as possible, as often as possible. And if your professors provide you with old exams…take ALL of them prior to your tests.
⠀
👩🏾🏫Meet with a trusted academic advisor to go over questions weekly. I met with a Pathology faculty member who had an expansive knowledge of all subject matters. That way, I wasn’t overcrowding my schedule with multiple meetings with multiple people. These meetings can help you talk out various processes with experts and ensure your line of thinking/reasoning is correct. Two meetings on exam blocks weeks.
⠀
❤️If you’re dating/in a relationship with someone outside the field, do your best to explain what you’re experiencing. This is the hardest (for many) year of med school. Still, allow your person to provide opportunities (when you can) to be present and get your mind off school for a sec.
