Curvy thighs save lives. With each year that passes, I grow more and more confident in my body shape and the clothing I wear to adorn it. My thighs have always curved outward, yielding me wide set hips and now I must say…I love it. Someone once said to me, “I’m gonna get me a Coca Cola bottle shape like Anya.” Ha! Another friend of mine dubbed me as “slim thick.” I love and embrace it all. There are still parts of the internets that try to make women feel like the smaller the better, but let me remind you: thick women been IT, are IT, and will forever be IT! Do I sometimes wish my stomach were flatter? Sure, but I constantly remind myself that I only get one body and how I treat it matters. How I speak to it matters. My body allows me to do amazing things and achieve my goals daily. And I’m going to appreciate and celebrate that. A huge part of my ever growing confidence in my size and shape stems from my knowing how to dress. Keep reading for my tips on what to wear to complement those curves.
Cinch your waist. There are so many good pieces out there that cinch the waist in and accentuate your shape all the more. Jumpsuits, bodycon dresses, high waist pants, high waist midi skirts, slip dresses, high waist jeans, bodysuits tucked into high waist jeans, two piece sets. See how many options we have?! These types of pieces are so flattering on fuller figures.
Throw on a good heel. Nothing like a good pump, y’all. Heels elongate you; giving plenty of leg and accentuated height. And the heel choice never has to be uncomfortable. That’s why I love sandal mules so much. The heel is usually a bit lower than a standard pump, but they still get the job done. Put on those heels and wear those legs out!
Show off what you love. Especially loving your arms? Go sleeveless. Feel like your legs make you look like a goddess? Try out those high waist shorts and/or skirt with that high slit. Whatever it is you love about yourself, show it off! I love my hips so I really enjoy pieces that hug and show them off; like the dress I’m wearing in this post. Have fun with your clothing and wear what makes YOU feel good.
I encourage you all to love yourselves out loud and allow your clothing choices to be a reflection of that self-love. Wear that bright color combo. Rock that bold print. Celebrate and appreciate your body daily, even if that tummy jiggles. I’m so glad my Mom taught me to be confident in myself. Here, I’m wearing an outfit that was once hers, down to the earrings. She passed it on to me. Shop a very similar look via the links in this post. Have a great rest of the week, y’all!
