2021 marks my fourth year blogging and creating content consistently. Yep, I’ve been working with Tina Smith since 2018 and it’s be on and up ever since! It was always my goal to scale my blog and online presence to a lucrative business for myself. However, true profit did not come until…well…this past year. Yep, during the height of the pandemic! So how did I stay motivated to create new content (and invest in my business) over the years when I was not even hitting my goal? For me, the actual creativity that goes into influencer marketing has always kept me coming back for more. I am a true creative at heart and seeing what I can invent, reinvent, introduce, and curate has always been my source of inspiration. Keep reading to find out how I keep SAC going.
Series. If you’ve been around for a while, you know I love a good series. So many of you have complimented me by saying I am really creative. That means so much to me because there are soooo many influencers out there. Series absolutely spark my creativity. I am a history buff, so dressing in period pieces and serving y’all my annual Black History content and providing the historical context of Martha’s Vineyard while serving these fashions…absolutely gets my juices flowing! These series require me to read and learn so I am always sharing accurate information. The more I learn, the more ideas I have. I have already pretty much planned out next year’s Black History series and I cannot even wait to create my next travel guide.
Locations. Y’all, locations really do inspire me. That’s why I’m always geotagging them on my my Instagram posts, hoping they inspire you as well. A huge part of my online presence is to show off Atlanta and whatever other cities I am in. In the past 3 years, I can honestly say I have done just that. I have a running list of specific locations I want to shoot in all of my favorite cities. Those places and spaces work to inspire a new look, a new caption, and sometimes even a new blog post. There are instances when I will create an entire outfit just to complement and right out match the backdrop.
Purpose. A major player in my purpose on these interwebs has become to encourage and provide resources for non-traditional medical students and students who are dealing with failure. I never really intended to share about medicine on my page. It was always supposed to be about the fashions, honey! But the more I shared about my #RoadToMD, the more I realized how much my honesty and candor are needed in the medical field and on social platforms. There are so many things I had to learn on my own in order to advocate for myself and to ensure I secured the MD. It was quite the lonely journey. I never want that to be the case for any student following me. Identifying this purpose has absolutely kept me passionate about creating student-based content; sharing all the gems I discovered on my own journey.
Fashion. Like I said, it’s always been about the lewks! Every time I turn around, there is a new colorful or beautifully printed item I just have to add to cart. Fashion is art to me. It’s like a puzzle to me. Piecing together different elements until I get the ultimate composition; discovering ways to rework older items so they complement the new…always inspirational to me. Furthermore, do y’all see all the dope ish Black creators are dropping? Christopher John Rogers and his collaboration with Target, the the Something by Sonjia x Monroe Steele spring collection, Signed Blake’s second Amazon Drop, CISE’s Protect Black People bags (I finally got one!!). I’m so inspired by them all and styling their pieces definitely = new content.
Brand Collaborations. Now that I have brand partnerships more consistently, I am constantly challenging myself to find new and creative ways to present different products. I want brands to be pleased with the work I submit, not just so they continue to work with me, but also because I want to show the pride I take in my work. That’s very important to me. I closed out a collaboration this week and the brand partner stated I always do a brilliant job! This comment meant so much to me! THAT is absolutely the kind of feedback I aspire to and I look forward to getting even sharper at my craft.
So there you have it: 5 things that keep me inspired to keep creating new content. I am so grateful to have the opportunity and flexibility to do all of what I love at the same time. Medicine and content creation are both passions of mine and I am consistently motivated to improve and keep going with both. As an introvert, I love that my online presence has afforded me a platform to share my voice. As always, thank y’all so much for following along! And for those who are also navigating the influencer marketing industry, the internet is inundated with digital creators, but none of them are YOU. I hope this post offers you insight into how to stay inspired to keep creating whether you’re meeting specific goals at the moment or not. Have the best weekend and get out and create what you love!
